Town water is safe to use there, so the refill, and any top-up, should come from the mains, not a spear or bore. Town water also differs across the council area. Hunter Water's 2014 hardness fact sheet lists Raymond Terrace, Tomago and Medowie as typically supplied from the Grahamstown plant, Lemon Tree Passage, Karuah and Mallabula from the Lemon Tree Passage plant, and Anna Bay, Soldiers Point and Corlette from the Anna Bay and Grahamstown plants. Hunter Water's supplied drinking water table, updated in August 2025, gives median hardness of about 56 mg/L for Grahamstown and Tomago Sandbeds, 68 mg/L for Lemon Tree Passage and 61 mg/L for Anna Bay. Balancing a freshly filled pool should start from a test of your own tap water.
Rain matters while the pool is empty. Bureau of Meteorology averages for Williamtown RAAF, with records back to 1942, show February to June as the wettest months, September as the driest, and July to September with the fewest rain days. The July mean minimum is 6.5°C, so check winter start dates against the product's minimum application temperature.
